US-based chicken processor Koch Foods is reportedly planning to invest $7.5m on expansion of its chicken processing plant in East Gadsden, Alabama. The Gadsden City Council approved non-education tax abatements for the company, which is set to add 70 more jobs with the expansion, as reported by The Gadsden Times.

According to the resolution approved by the council, the jobs are expected to add $1.89m to Koch's payroll.

Gadsden-Etowah Industrial Development Authority executive director Mike McCain said the new jobs are for 'value added' products.

The company currently has 585 employees, inclusive of 80 jobs added in October of last year.

While announcing last year's jobs, the company said it would invest $6m in the plant, hoping to complete the expansion by January.

According to the publication, Koch acquired the plant from Tyson in 2007.

Founded in 1973, Koch Foods is a privately held, vertically integrated chicken processor that distributes fresh and frozen products internationally under the Koch Foods, Antioch Farms, Preferred Foods, and Rogers Royal brands and other custom and private labels.

Koch Foods is also one of the five vertically integrated food processors in the US.
